No patterns. No worksheets. Real, hands-on making from day one. Every Fall session in the Community Room at Whidbey Coffee in Burlington, your student grabs a machine, picks a project, and starts creating — no pre-cut kits, no paint-by-numbers packets, just fabric, thread, and the confidence to figure it out as they go, the same way real designers work. From their first stitch, students are behind a real machine — threading it, measuring, cutting, sewing a clean seam, and fixing their own mistakes. That's where real confidence comes from: not being handed a finished project, but building one with their own hands, with hands-on guidance at every machine. Every student chooses their own project and fabric, making real creative decisions along the way, so what they walk out with is entirely their own — never a copy of a sample on the wall. Projects build in skill over the season, from first stitches up through zippers, stuffed plushies, and garment basics — and each season layers in new challenges, so returning students keep growing instead of repeating what they already know. There's real pride in that: the kid who swore they "weren't creative" carrying home something they made entirely themselves, and asking to make another one for a sibling or friend. Includes a sewing machine and all fabric, thread, and notions for every project (bring your own machine if you'd rather). 9 sessions, October–December, scheduled around the Burlington-Edison School District calendar. Choose Mondays or Wednesdays, 4:00–5:30pm. Taught by Stephanie Philbrick, founder of Positively Sewing — a self-taught designer with 100+ pieces across 10 collections and 17 fashion shows, now teaching the next generation of makers in her own community. Pick up: All participants must be picked up on time. I voluntarily assume all risks associated with participation and agree to release, waive, and hold harmless Positive Change, LLC, its owners, employees, contractors, representatives, and hosting facilities from any and all claims, liabilities, damages, or expenses arising from injury, illness, or loss sustained during participation, whether for myself or my minor child. In the event of a medical emergency, I authorize Positive Change, LLC to obtain medical treatment if I cannot be reached, and I accept responsibility for any related costs. I grant permission for photographs and/or video taken during programs to be used for promotional purposes. I confirm that I am at least 18 years old or the parent/legal guardian of the participant, and I agree to these terms voluntarily.
